Claiming to be from Australian Federal Government Reclaimed Department, wanting to refund overcharges within 24 hours. Wanted to pay by cheque and asked for date of Birth. The guy had an indian accent and he gave the name Max Turner.

by Anonymous on 2014-08-14This is a scam - called my mum telling her she had an amount for $7268 (interesting that it is almost the same amount that the people who also got call got told). They wanted her to call back provide details and she would get her money from them - they were supposedly the Government / Federal Bank. When asked why they could not send the cheque - Never got any sense out of them other than wanting details on her - she is 90!!

by Anonymous on 2014-08-18Have been called twice in two days. Was nearly taken in as I wasn't concentrating on what I was hearing. Did some research and discovered they don't exist as a govt dept! Was told I had $7268 in overpaid utilities which is the same amount as others have reported. Well, our overpayments are credited back to our account, so that wasn't going to wash once I turned my brain on! My guy had a thick Indian accent and claimed he was from Sydney. I didn't ask his name.
