On one of the wetter days in Cradle Mountain we drove up to Burnie and did a tour of the Hellyer Road Whisky Distillery. I love my whisky and enjoyed the tour and tasting but was also interested in one of the staves from the barrels used there. I am a pen turner, ie I make uniquely handcrafted pens out of wood (and some other materials). I had an idea of making some pens from the barrels used in making the whisky and selling them to distillery to sell in their shop. They have pens but not ones made out of the barrel used to make their whisky. I enquired whether they had any broken barrels and whether they had any pieces I could try however unfortunately they didn’t but suggested I contact you. To make a pen I use a pen blank which is about 120mm x 20mm x 20mm. I reckon I could get a few pens out of a barrel stave. I was just enquiring how I would go about getting 2-3 used staves, like the ones used by Hellyers, sent over so I could trial a few or even one. How much would that cost?
