"Shirley Watson", claiming to be from Computer Technicians Ltd in Newtown, Sydney, called to advise me that my home computer had viruses, and offered to fix it for me. Amazingly, for someone with an Anglo name like "Shirley Watson" and calling from Sydney, she had a surprisingly strong Indian accent. (I'm being sarcastic, of course.) In other words, it's more of the same old Indian "viruses on your computer" scam. Unless you're a qualifier scambaiter, just hang up.

Indian "there are viruses on your computer" scammers. They showed me a bogus website, and claimed to be calling from Newtown in Sydney. At least it's a change from the usual implausible claim that they're calling from Martin Place. I'm a retired IT professional, and I used a well-secured virtual machine (fake computer) to lead these criminals on with some ultimately futile activity. After around ninety minutes of wasting their time, I finally had to break it to them that they'd been fooled. They were familiar with the concept of people using virtual machines to do that, and were very displeased. They called me back several times to abuse me and try to intimidate me. These people are really nasty pieces of work. The fact that they would bother to ring back and waste even more of their time giving abuse and threats, rather than just cutting their losses and moving on, shows how vindictive they are.
