by Anonymous on 2024-08-15Caller: 'Michael'(02) 8358 2859, (08) 6365 7872, (08) 6365 7874 and (08) 6365 7877, and (08) 6365 7878 were all from "Michael' who pretended to be from Microsoft Security. My computer 'froze' up when I was on the internet, receiving a repeated pop-up picture, voice prompt and phone number on the screen '1800 489 796' to ring Microsoft Security to have my computer immediately 'fixed'. He generated an "Event Viewer' pop-up box on my screen which contained the 'number of events' of warnings and error messages produced from computer log via the 'validator' website 'W3C Markup Validation Service secure page'. Upon him showing me the 11,394 number of events produced by my system, I was convinced that I had no choice but to allow 'Microsoft Security' to fix my system. This fellow proceeded to remotely access my computer and my mobile phone via the 'AnyDesk' mobile app, the 'Link to Windows' app, and my email address. Unbeknownst to me, he had accessed my bank accounts under the guise of 'fixing' my computer with this supposed Microsoft Security Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool that he said he was running through my computer system. He then asked me for actual photograph identification in terms of my licence and an actual facial photograph to prove my identification. He said to me that my computer would not require any antivirus software for the next three years. Please be very wary. The scammer took advantage of me because I am not 'tech savvy'. This guy was very convincing, reassuring, calm and extremely patient.
